FOUR REASONS YOU SHOULD ROUTINELY TEST AUSTIN WATER!
#1 - Boil Water Notice

After days and days of intense rain in October 2018, Austin Water Utility was drowning with problems!

The flooding overwhelmed their systems and they were unable to filter silt and debris from the water.

Austin water declared an emergency, urging residents to boil their water and calling for severe restrictions.

Many in the city panicked as store shelves quickly ran out of water.

With's Austin's first rainy season coming up in May and June, many are worried Austin Water Utility will once again be overwhelmed.
#2 - Stinky Water

Were you one of the many Austinites that woke up February 7th to find that their drinking water smelled like "raw meat"?

Turns out, the culprit was zebra mussels that made their way in to the Ulrich Water Treatment Plant.

The assistant director of Austin Water Utility would later report that the pipes where the mussels were found are hardly ever checked.

This may not be the last time we have to deal with stinky water!
#3 Industrial Waste
Many Austinite's are unaware that Austin Water Utility routinely adds to Austin water untreated chemical waste from the phosphate fertilizer industry.

Touted as a remedy for low income families maintain healthy teeth, the hydro fluorosilicic acid added to Austin's water has been shown to have many negative effects especially for those suffering from thyroid problems and for infants.

Austin Water Utility has even gone so far as to caution parents from giving infants fluoridated water in their formula.
#4 - Lead in AISD Water

Last year, Environment Texas gained access to data showing that unsafe levels of lead had been found in five AISD schools!

The schools were Boone and Patton elementary schools, Bailey and Covington middle schools, and Lanier High School.

Exposure to lead in children can cause permanent cognitive and behavioral problems.

Austin ISD officials have since added filters to the schools. We can only hope this doesn't happen again.
